Urban Nature Park

Located at 426 E. Michigan Avenue in downtown Kalamazoo, the Urban Nature Park (UNP) is a 4-acre green space running along the Portage Creek and Michigan Avenue.  The former Brownfield site has been recently planted with native prairie plants, and is now open to the public with a hiking and biking trail running through the park!

As time goes on, it will become a space with trails, picnic areas, and native plantings.
The restoration of the historic railroad bridge across Portage creek are now complete. Plants have been selected based on historical records, as well as soil types and optimal species for birds and butterflies.  If you’d like to volunteer to help restore this amazing 4 acres in downtown Kalamazoo in the spring, please contact Anna Kornoelje via email.
